Popular transgender beauty influencer Nikita Dragon was released from prison after being arrested following an altercation in a Miami hotel pool, rolling stone confirmed. Police were called to the Goodtime Hotel in Miami Beach after reports that Dragun was acting disorderly. She was arrested and charged with one count of assault and battery for disorderly conduct and assault and battery for a misdemeanor. But according to documents reviewed by rolling stone, the influencer – who has spent much of her online career openly discussing her transition from male to female and is now legally a woman – was listed as male on her booking documents. And during her hearing Wednesday morning before her release, Dragun said she was in a men’s unit and asked to be moved.
“Do I still have to stay here in the men’s unit?” she asks in a video of the hearing that began circulating online, looking emotional. Judge Mindy Glazer told Dragun she “didn’t make the rules” but said accommodations, such as a separate area, could be made. (It is unclear whether these accommodations were made prior to his release.)

Although best known for her makeup and fashion content, Dragun has gained popularity for her videos about the transgender experience. In 2018, she publicly announced that she was taking hormone replacement therapy as part of her transition and continued to document her transition and life as a woman on her YouTube channel.
Prison reform groups have found that transgender prisoners housed in prisons consistent with their gender identity can often be the target of increased physical or sexual violence. Under Florida law, transgender inmates are permitted to be placed in gender-specific prisons on a case-by-case basis, and while they are legally granted the same rights as other inmates, reports have found that transgender convicts in Florida can Face increased discrimination for their orientation.
