Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall along Florida’s east coast this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. Several parts of central Florida, including those along the coast, are subject to power surge watches and warnings, tropical storm watches and warnings, or hurricane watches and warnings.
Authorities are warning that Tropical Storm Nicole is a dangerous storm and will bring large and damaging waves along the coast, including heavy rain and flash flooding, in addition to high winds.

Brevard County Schools
Schools in Brevard County announced Tuesday that they will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9 and 10, due to Tropical Storm Nicole. All activities, events and programs are cancelled. The district is closed on Friday, November 11 due to Veterans Day.
Flagler County Schools
Flagler County schools will release students early Wednesday, Nov. 9, ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole, and will remain closed Thursday, Nov. 10. The school will also be closed on Friday, November 11 for Veterans Day.
College students will be released at noon. Secondary students will be released at 1:00 p.m. Elementary students will be released at 2:00 p.m.
Lake County Schools
Lake County schools will hold classes on Wednesday, Nov. 9 and will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10 and 11, due to Tropical Storm Nicole and Veterans Day. While school will be in session on Wednesday, all extracurricular activities are canceled, the district said in a statement.
Marion County Public Schools
Public schools in Marion County will be closed on Thursday, November 10.
Osceola County Schools
Osceola County Schools announcement Tuesday that it will end classes an hour earlier on Wednesday November 9 and will remain closed on Thursday November 10. Due to Veterans Day, the school is already closed on Friday November 11th.
The district said classes would resume on Monday, Nov. 14.
Seminole County Schools
Seminole County schools announced Tuesday at a press conference that they will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, due to Tropical Storm Nicole. The neighborhood is closed on Friday, November 11 for Veterans Day.
Sumter County Schools
Sumter County schools will close Thursday, November 10, 2022 due to Tropical Storm Nicole and will remain closed Friday, November 11, 2022 due to Veterans Day.
Volusia County Schools
Schools in Volusia County will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, November 9 and 10, 2022, ahead of Tropical Storm Nichole. All school activities are cancelled. The school will also be closed on Friday November 11 for Veterans Day.
University of Central Florida
UCF announcement that it will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, and that all classes and activities are suspended. UCF Housing will remain open throughout the storm. The dining room will remain open until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9.
