BREAKING NEWS WE ARE FOLLOWING THE BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING. THE JACKSON FIRE DEPARTMENT IS SEEKING A FIREMAN THIS MORNING. IT SAYS AT LEAST SEVEN STRUCTURES ON FIRE IN THE WEST JACKSON AREA. WE WANT TO GO LIVE RIGHT NOW TO 16 DEPUTY MADELINE NOLA WHO IS AT THE SCENE OF A FIRE STILL BURNING A CHURCH FIRE. IS THE FIRE STILL BURNING. I WILL WALK AWAY JUST BEFORE WE INTERVIEW DEPUTY CHIEF PATRICK ALMOND WITH THE JACKSON FIRE DEPARTMENT. NOW WE ARE JOINED BY HIM THIS MORNING. I WANT, CHIEF, TO TELL ME ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR FIRE. GOOD. THIS MORNING IT STARTS AT APPROXIMATELY 245. I HAVE STARTED RECEIVING CALLS ABOUT MULTIPLE FIRES IN THIS AREA. SO THAT’S WHEN WE WERE OUT. I GOT HERE ABOUT 430, AND THIS IS WHAT WE FOUND. THIS IS THE MOST MAJOR OF THE FIRES WE HAVE HAD. BUT RIGHT NOW WE CAN KNOW WE HAVE LIKE SIX DIFFERENT LIGHTS. TWO OF THEM WERE CHURCHES, AND THE OTHERS WERE LIKE DIFFERENT STRUCTURES IN THIS COMMUNITY AND FROM ALL OF THIS WE FOUND THAT IT WAS PROBABLY SOME INDIVIDUAL WALKING AROUND AND STARTING FIRES. SO WE SUSPECT ALL THIS TO BE FIRE. WE HAVE OUR FIRE INVESTIGATORS ON THE SCENE. WE GOT PD DO A STUDY OF THE AREA. AND AT THIS TIME, THIS FIRE, AS I SAY, IS THE MOST MAJOR OF FIRES. THE REST OF THEM HAVE BEEN SHUTDOWN. AND FROM WHAT YOU CAN SEE BEHIND YOU KNOW IT WAS LIKE THIS WHEN YOU FIRST ARRIVED. SO WE HAVE ESSENTIALLY GOT THIS ONE UNDER CONTROL AND GETTING READY TO DO OUR RECOVERY AND REVIEW. YES. WHEN WE ARRIVED, IT’S HUGE. HE HAS A LOT HIDDEN. I WANT, TELL ME WHAT ELSE DO THEY HAVE TO DO HERE? WELL RIGHT NOW THEY WILL RELEASE SOME UNITS BECAUSE SOME GUYS ARE TIRED. THEY WILL RETURN TO THE STATION AND PREPARE FOR THE TEAM CHANGE. BUT THEN THE REST WILL STAY HERE AND DO WHAT WE CALL RESCUE AND REVIEW. AND THIS IS WHERE WE MAKE SURE ALL THE FIRE IS EXTINGUISHED. AND EVERYTHING IN THESE BUILDINGS IS SALVERABLE SO THEY WILL TRY TO MAKE SURE THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF THEIR PROPERTY SO THE OWNERS COME BACK AND GET THEIR OK. AND AT THIS TIME, WE HAVE NO DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSON YOU THINK IS STARTING THESE FIRES. NO, ONLY. WE NEED TO BROADCAST HERE. NOTHING LIKE. NOPE. BUT HE IS STILL AT THE RUN OR YOU DIDN’T ARREST HIM, DO YOU KNOW? NO, NO, WE DON’T KNOW. WE HAVE NOT REACHED THE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE. GOOD. AND IT MOVES, SEVEN LIGHTS, VERY WELL. BY JACKSON, STAYING COLLEGE. I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE SEVERITY OF THIS AND WHAT YOU REALLY JUST EXPERIENCED THIS MORNING? WELL, THIS IS A MAJOR EVENT. THIS IS WHAT I WANT, I HAVE BEEN HERE 30 YEARS, SO THERE IS NOTHING I CAN’T SAY. I HAVE SEEN THINGS LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT THIS IS AN AMAZING EVENT. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE NORMALLY DO. AND AT THIS MOMENT, WE HAVE THE MAJORITY, NOT THE MAJORITY, BUT LIKE A THIRD OF THE DEPARTMENT THAT IS HERE. BASICLY ALL OF DISTRICT ONE WE HAVE THREE DISTRICTS, ALL OF DISTRICT ONE IS OUTSIDE AND WORKING THESE FIRES, AS YOU SAY, THEY ARE THEY ARE RELEASED AT THIS TIME AND ARE RETURNING TO RE-OPERATE. AND YOU SAID IT’S IN THIS COMMUNITY AND IT’S TREES, TRUE. JACKSON STATE, IN ACTUALITY, ONE OF THE PROPERTIES IS ON THE JACKSON STATE CAMPUS AND IT WAS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS ON THE BASEBALL FIELD. I CAN’T SPEAK MUCH ABOUT IT BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN THERE AND SEEN IT MYSELF. I JUST HAVE REPORTS. GOOD. AND A LOT OF IT IS REALLY JUST CONTINGENCY. YOU DON’T KNOW IF SOMEONE HAS BEEN INJURED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING THROUGH EVERY HOUSE AND STRUCTURE. WELL, EVERYTHING IS PRELIMINARY. SO ALL THE INFORMATION I GIVE YOU, WE MAY BE ABLE TO CHANGE. I’M JUST GIVING YOU THE INFORMATION AS WE HAVE IT RIGHT NOW. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. SO THINGS COULD CHANGE. AND AS REGARDS INJURIES, WE HAVE NONE AT THIS TIME, BUT NONE REPORTED AT THIS TIME. SO WE ARE WITH THESE TEAMS, MAKING SURE ALL THE GUYS ARE WELL AND. WHILE WE DO THIS, WE MAY FIND, YOU KNOW, A FEW LIGHTER INJURIES OR SOME INJURIES, BUT THAT WOULD BE NOTHING. Ok, do you have anything else that I guess the public needs to know about the area, especially with the smoke and then. BLACKBURN MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A VOTING AREA THIS MORNING. DO YOU THINK PEOPLE SHOULD COME HERE? YES. I WANT, THIS IS NOTHING THAT IS A DANGER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. BUT I WOULD ASK THE PUBLIC IF THEY SEE ANYTHING OR HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED HERE TO ENSURE THEY CALL AND SHARE THIS INFORMATION PROBABLY ANYTHING WE GET MIGHT BE IMPORTANT AND BE THE THE VERY THING THAT MAKES US ABLE TO BREAK THIS CASE. GOOD. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOIN ME THIS MORNING. I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE GOED ALL LIVES AND FOR MENTIONING US THIS MORNING AND REALLY FOR US. SO THANKS. THANKS AGAIN. WE WILL ALWAYS BE HERE. INTEL, THE FIREFIGHTERS LEAVE THE SCENE THIS MORNING, SO PLEASE STAY WITH US ALL MORNING. YOU JUST HEARED IT FROM HIM. SEVEN FIRES THIS MORNING AND INCENDIOUS. SO WE WILL RETURN IT TO YOU FOR NOW. BUT FOR NOW, FIVE AND JACKSON, MADELINE NOLAN, 16. WAPT NEWS. AND WE WANT IT. QUICKLY HERE IS A606 THIS TUESDAY MORNING ELECTION DAY. WE WISH TO REITERATE THAT NO VOTING LOCATION HAS BEEN CLOSED OR IMPACTED BY ANY OF THESE FIRES. THERE IS NO CLOSED VOTING PLACE. NO VOTING LOCATION THAT IS IMPACTED AT ALL. THE VOTING PLACES THAT ARE OPEN, NONE ARE IMPACTED. SO PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE TODAY WHEN POLLS OPEN AT 7AM. AND WE CAN OUR TEAM COVERAGE THIS MORNING. 16 WAPT’S ROSS ADAMS IS ALSO LIVE AT EPIPHANE LUTHERAN CHURCH. ROSS, WHAT DO YOU SEE. WELL, WE HAVE MANAGED TO GET A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE STRUCTURE HERE, THE SWIVEL CHURCH, AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT’S REMAINING. THERE IS STILL LOTS OF SMOKE AND IN FACT SMALL FIRES. FIREFIGHTERS ARE INSIDE THE BUILDING PASSING BY TRYING TO EXTINGUISH WHAT’S REMAINING OF THE FIRE. AND I CAN STILL SEE FLAMES AT THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. WE CANNOT ARRIVE BECAUSE WE ARE BLOCKED FROM THIS AREA. BUT THIS FIRE, WHAT REMAINS OF IT, STILL CONSUMES THIS STRUCTURE HERE OF THE EPIPHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH. AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TODAY BEING THE MID-TERM ELECTION, A MAJOR SITUATION IS HAPPENING. AND SOMETHING LIKE THIS CERTAINLY REMINDS ME THAT THERE IS A POLITICAL MOTIVATION FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING. SOMEONE DECIDED TO GET UP DURING THE NIGHT AND LIGHT MORE THAN HALF A DOZEN FIRES THROUGHOUT THE CAPITAL. AND THE FACT THAT A NUMBER OF CHURCHES, INCLUDING APPARENTLY A MAJOR TEMPLE IN BETHLEHEM, HAVE BEEN TARGET, SURELY RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MOTIVATIONS OF WHOM SETTING THESE FIRES AND THE MESSAGE THEY ARE TRYING TO SEND. THIS IS THE VERY LAST FROM HERE.
