What salaries do Google and Amazon offer

New York City new pay transparency law went into effect Nov. 1, which means job seekers — and anyone else curious — can find out how much money some of the world’s best companies are offering their employees.

By law, companies hiring in New York must post “good faith” pay scales which include minimum and maximum salaries for all job offers, promotions and transfer opportunities.

If a company does not have its ranges listed and they are reported, it will have 30 days from receipt of a notice from the New York City Commission on Human Rights, which enforces the law. , to update her job postings or she could be fined up to $250,000 per violation, CNBC Make It’s Jennifer Liu reports.

While some large companies started including their pay scales on job postings before the November 1 deadline, other employers appear to have blocked or appear to be testing the “good faith” part of the law by posting what many workers consider to be salary ranges that are too wide.

For example, the minimum and maximum base salaries for a corporate planning manager job at Google are separated by nearly $100,000. In the job posting, Google notes that the salary range reflects “the target minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the position across all U.S. locations,” adding that an individual’s salary is ultimately determined by work location and additional factors including skills, experience and education.
