Weight issues abound ahead of Marina Rodriguez-Amanda Lemos card

A record four fighters have missed weight for UFC Vegas 64, which takes place Saturday at Apex on the UFC campus in Las Vegas. But it will also be remembered as the card in which a presidential election nearly canceled a fight.

Three Brazilian women – Amanda Lemos, Tamires Vidal and Polyana Viana – were forced to miss their first flight from Brazil to Las Vegas due to the second round of the presidential election in Brazil, where former president Lula da Silva returned to the power by defeating the incumbent president. Jair Bolsonaro. Protesters forced flights to

The women, who needed to lose weight, did not arrive in Las Vegas until late Wednesday. It made things hectic, especially for Lemos, who fights Marina Rodriguez in the main event.

“It was very difficult,” said Lemos. “It was a bit stressful at the airport. We spent the night at the airport.

Lemos, who is ranked seventh at strawweight, three spots behind No. 4 Rodriguez, however, managed to do her part and make the weight. She came in at 114.5, half a pound below the championship limit on a day when four of his peers missed. Rodriguez came in at 115.5, half a pound under the non-title fight limit.

“They always told me I had to have something different,” Lemos said, which she proved by gaining weight despite all the distractions.

Nonetheless, Lemos is a pretty significant -170 underdog for Rodriguez at BetMGM. Rodriguez is a -210 favorite. Will not go the distance is a -135 favorite and will go the distance is a +105 underdog.

UFC Vegas 64: Four fighters miss weight

Grant Dawson missed his mark of 156 for his fight with Mark Madsen, coming in at 157.5. Madsen hit 155 on the count. It’s a fight that UFC President Dana White featured in his “If You Don’t Know” segment on Instagram, where he picks out lesser-known fights and advises fans to pay close attention.

Dawson was fined 30% of his scholarship.

Benito Lopez came in at 138.5, two and a half years above the bantamweight maximum for a non-title fight of 136, and was fined 20% of his purse. His opponent, Mario Bautista, did it at 135.5 pounds.

Carlos Candelario came in at 128.5, missing the flyweight limit of 126 for his fight with Jake Hadley. He paid a 20 percent fine.

Ramona Pascual was 137, one pound over the bantamweight limit, and was fined 20% of her purse. Vidale arrived under the limit, despite her travel problems, and was 134 years old.

Accordingly, Young was not fined.

However, the Maverick-Young bout was scheduled to take place on August 20 at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City. Young was briefly hospitalized during her weight cut and the fight was moved to Saturday. It looks like she might have to change classes soon.
