Six people died Friday morning in a fire at an apartment complex in Hartland, police said Friday afternoon. It was initially reported that seven people had died. Police Chief Torin Misko said they were working to identify the deceased and notify their family members. The building is close to Oxford Drive and Mansfield Court. The fire started around 5:11 a.m. Daylight revealed the destruction, blown out windows, soot-stained siding and children’s toys strewn across the backyard. Matt Salemme in News Chopper 12 saw exterior bricks strewn across the floor, as well as fire and smoke damage. “The top of the roof was on fire. The front of the building was on fire and there were people being taken out on stretchers,” neighbor Jacob Lacrosse said. There were 15 fire departments and nine police departments responding to the fire at the four-family building. “I smelled smoke, and one of my neighbors heard a big boom, and he said something had exploded, so we don’t know what exploded. He said some people don’t care. weren’t out,” said neighbor Tracy Marinello, who lives in the neighborhood. It is now a criminal investigation. Police say they are investigating whether the fire was intentionally started. The police chief did not know the ages of the deceased. The American Red Cross is supporting residents of three units displaced by the fire. It provides emergency assistance with essentials such as temporary housing, meals and more to a family of four in one unit (including two children), a family of four in a second unit (including three children) and an adult couple in the third unit. . Oxford Drive was back at 5pm on Friday, but the flat is still stuck on Mansfield Court. There were still plenty of fire investigators on the scene.
