The American League Divisional Series between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians resumes Friday after Game 2 was pushed back a day due to rain.
The Yankees took care of business in Game 1, beating the Guardians 4-1 thanks to a few homers and a strong performance from Gerrit Cole.
Now Cleveland is going to try to make those New York bats a little uncomfortable by hitting them with a bit of a fever. Bieber Fever, that’s it! Shane Biber quietly had a great second half of his season and was exceptional in his Wild Card start against Tampa Bay.

The fever is back, baby! Shane Bieber was quietly exceptional in the second half of the season, looking a lot like the guy who won the American League’s Cy Young Award in 2020. He was also a big reason the Guardians were able to go on a 16- 2. late in the season, which helped them clinch the AL Central Division crown.
Bieber has pitched to a 2.04 ERA, limiting opponents to a .215 batting average and .562 OPS in his last 13 starts of the regular season. The right-hander retained that in his first playoff start, limiting the Rays to just one run on three hits while striking out eight of 7 2-3 innings of work last Friday.
He’s also been a beast when it comes to innings pitched, averaging almost seven innings per start over his last 14 games.
On Friday, Bieber gets an all-new test at the Yankees, who he has yet to face in 2022. The Yankees’ overall offensive numbers are strong, but they’ve asked a lot of Judge Aaron this season. The second half of the year was also more difficult.
After the All-Star break, the Yankees ranked 21st in batting average, 10th in OPS, and 17th in strikeout rate. And that includes all of Judge’s incredible numbers.
The Yankees are countering Bieber with Nestor Cortes, and the southpaw has been outstanding in his own right this season, throwing to a 2.44 ERA and limiting opponents to a .189 batting average.
He faces a team of pesky, well-trained, streaky Guardians. One that’s been riding a wave of momentum since the start of September, where the team had the third-highest batting average while ranking 11th in OPS and wRC+. Heck, they even beat the Yanks 6-5 in Game 1.
If the Guardians can steal a game, it’s this one with Bieber on the mound. And if they do, it’s probably because he pitched well enough to take the win for a prop we get a ton of value on.

Analysis of the Guardians’ funding line against the Yankees
The Yankees hit the board for Game 2 with around -150 home favorites, but I think that number underestimates the Guardians given their ace takes the mound.
Bieber and Cortes are, at worst, even in this game. The same can be said for enclosures. The biggest difference in this game is that one team has the judge and the other does not.
I’ve already covered why Bieber is valuable to register a win, so I’d also side with the Guardians on the money line if you can get him between +120 and +125.

Now the total is probably the main event here. It’s another postseason low of 6.0, but it’s fully deserved in this game as Bieber isn’t the only one with big numbers in this game.
Cortes has been great all season, but even more so in the Bronx. Cortes boasts a ridiculous 1.95 ERA while limiting opponents to a .161 batting average in 15 starts at Yankee Stadium this season.
And while Cleveland’s offense improved a lot in the second half, the overall numbers against southpaws aren’t great. The Guardians ranked 20th in batting average and 28th in OPS when digging against left-handed pitchers this season.
The pitch really should be the story of it, or at least the beginning. Expect both starters to put a bunch of zeros on the scoreboard and take a close look at the top five overall.
