Blake Shelton “walks away” from “The Voice” after 23 seasons: “Hell of a Ride”

Blake Shelton decided to take a step back from his coaching duties The voice after 12 years of wandering.

On Tuesday, the “God’s Country” singer announced that the next season of the singing competition show will be his last, marking 23 consecutive seasons with the show before its release.

“I’ve been struggling with this for a while and decided it was time for me to step away from The voice after season 23,” the 46-year-old country star wrote in a Instagram post. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and I will always feel like home.”

He continued, “It’s been one hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair rotation and I want to thank everyone at NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ every producer, writers, musicians, crew and caterers, you guys are the best. It takes a lot of hard work, passion and adult drinks (Ha!) to put on a live show twice a week.”

Shelton then reflected on the relationships he’s cultivated on the show – and gave the contestants a shout out.

“I have formed lifelong bonds with Carson and every one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife, Gwen Stefani! I have a huge thank you to the singers – the ‘Voices’ who come to this stage season after season. and amaze us with their talent and a special thank you to those who chose me to be their coach.”

He concluded, “Finally, it’s about all of you, the fans, watching and supporting these artists, us the coaches, and everyone at ‘The Voice’ chasing their dreams. It wouldn’t happen without you!”

Shelton began coaching the first season alongside Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green. The Maroon 5 frontman and Shelton trained together until Levine’s exit in Season 16, and various stars have occupied the red chairs since, including Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Usher, Nick Jonas and more. Throughout its time on the show, Team Shelton has had eight total wins.

Aside from Shelton’s exit, The voice also announced who will be coaching alongside him for season 23. Kelly Clarkson will mark his return after leaving season 21, while luck the rapper and Niall Horan will make their debut as series coaches.

The stars teased the announcement earlier today by post a peace sign emoji on their Instagram feeds and tag each other. With the news, they each shared their excitement for the new season.

“I am delighted to join The voice as a coach for next season,” the 29-year-old “Sunday Candy” singer said. “I’m excited to help other artists take it to the next level and make the most of this life-changing experience. Get ready for #teamchance.”

Horan, 29, added: “I am delighted to join this season of The voice as a coach. I look forward to meeting and mentoring the next generation of talent as we battle it out with the other teams!”

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer said she’s “so excited to be back with my Voice family!”

A premiere date for Season 23 has yet to be announced, but watch Season 22 of The voice on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. with Shellon, Gwen Stefani, Camille Hair and john legend as coaches.
