Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Mile High time on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado.
In-Game Updates
1:15 p.m. (Mountain Time): The Broncos raised running back Devine Ozigbo, safety Anthony Harris and outside linebacker Jonathan Kongbo of the training team before their game against the Colts on TNF.
5:00 p.m. MT: A few surprises for the inactive Broncos tonight. Right tackle Billy Turner looks like he could wear a Denver uniform for the first time in this game. It will be active. Check full list of inactives for this Broncos-Colts game here.
6:19 p.m. (Mountain Time): Nyheim Hines was knocked out of the match early. After being hit and tackled, he clearly had motor issues. With concussion protocol in the NFL coming under fire in recent weeks, we can assume they’ll be very careful with Hines here.
6:25 p.m. MT: After forcing the Colts to a three and out on their first practice, Russell Wilson and the Broncos quickly took to the field in the red zone. However, their practice would stall at 15 where Brandon McManus would put them 3-0 up in the first quarter.
6:53 p.m. MT: The first quarter would end in a battle of three and outs. Outside of that first Broncos practice that ended with a field goal, both teams mostly punted and a three-and-out is usually how they got there. Complete recap of the first quarter.
7:01 p.m. (Mountain Time): Denver finally got things rolling. However, as they threatened the red zone, Garett Bolles moved on early to a hard count from Russell Wilson who backed them up. KJ Hamler nearly broke a third pass for six, but was tackled short of the sticks. McManus would instead put Denver 6-0 up in the second quarter.
7:11 p.m. MT: With the Colts at the wheel and just two plays out of Phillip Lindsay opening up a 16-yard gain, Matt Ryan would try to force the ball through midfield to a waiting Caden Sterns. He would intercept the ball and return it to the Broncos’ 37-yard line to keep the Colts scoreless.
7:36 p.m. MT: Ronald Darby came limping on a play late in the first half and was taken to the locker room. It is doubtful to return.
7:41 p.m. MT: The Colts drove to the 15-yard line, but back-to-back sacks from the Broncos defense for huge losses put them in a 3rd-and-38 spot. They got just enough yards to give them a 52-yard field goal attempt to cut the Broncos’ lead to 6-3 just before halftime. Full recap of the second quarter.
7:44 p.m. (Mountain Time): News broke at half-time that ILB Josey Jewell is also questionable to return with a knee problem. He was limping on the Colts’ final drive and is now unlikely to play in the second half. He would be ruled out to start the second half.
Game preview
Week 5 starts with Thursday night football and the Denver Broncos (2-2) will host the Indianapolis Colts (1-2-1) in their third prime-time game this season. Both teams stumbled out of the gates as their new quarterbacks check out their new teams.
Matt Ryan throws a lot of interceptions, but in his last two games he’s improved a lot with a 4-1 touchdown to interception ratio. However, he has nine fumbles this season and that’s one area the Broncos defense could exploit. Ryan has returned the ball more than eight times in total in four games.
Meanwhile, Russell Wilson had his ups and downs and all over his Denver debut. He hasn’t been subject to turnover like Ryan, but he hasn’t been able to find consistency on offense yet this season. He had his most effective game last week, but a horrible third quarter resulted in a deficit the team couldn’t make up.
My prediction
In partnership with DraftKings Sportsbook, I’m covering all my picks this year on TallySight. Our staff are pretty confident the Broncos can pull a win here in our weekly score predictions and I was more confident than most with a 27-17 score prediction there. I think this is a game that Denver pulls away against the Colts.
