What to know about Herschel Walker’s son, Christian, who went viral for reporting on his dad

Christian Walker is a conservative social media personality and podcast host whose father, businessman and college football legend Herschel walkeris the Republican candidate running against Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock in this year’s midterm elections.

But father and son have rarely crossed paths in public this year – until this week, when young Walker denounced her father in a series of social media posts and videos.

Critics of Christian Walker were prompted, he said, by the latest of the Herschel Walker scandals: Monday night, the candidate denied a Daily Beast report that he paid for the abortion of an ex-girlfriend in 2009. He campaigned for the Senate as an anti-abortion politician.

Of the Daily Beast story, Herschel Walker told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, “It’s a lie.”

His son used that same word to attack him.

“Right-wingers say I did a campaign event with my dad last year… I did an event last year when we were told he was going to get ahead of his past and hold themselves accountable,” Christian Walker said in one of his videos this week after the Daily Beast story.

“None of that happened. It’s all been a lie,” he said. “Don’t lie about your life to the detriment of me, my mother and all the people you have affected throughout your life. You can’t pretend you’re a moral family guy.

Christian Walker did not respond to multiple interview requests from ABC News.

In his social media posts, Christian Walker hints at other controversies his father played down, including news articles this year that Herschel Walker has several children while publicly acknowledging Christian. (“To say that I’m hiding my kids because I don’t tell reporters about them to win a campaign? That’s outrageous,” Herschel said in a statement this summer.)

Christian Walker took another view.

“You know, my favorite subject is my father’s absence. Surprise! Because it affected me,” he said in a video on Tuesday, adding, “He has four kids, four different wives. He wasn’t home to raise one of them.”

The night before, shortly after the Daily Beast report, Christian Walker wrote on Twitter: “[H]dare to lie and act as if you were a “moral, Christian and upright man”. You have lived a life of DESTROYING the lives of others. How dare you.”

In another tweet, Christian Walker wrote “Every member of Herschel Walker’s family asked him not to run for office because we all knew (part of) his background.”

Herschel Walker also tweeted this week. “I LOVE my son no matter what” he wrote.

Who is Christian Walker? A school athlete turned social media star

Christian Walker, 23, is the only child of Herschel Walker and Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, the candidate’s first wife. They married in 1983 after meeting at the University of Georgia, where the elder Walker found success in football and Grossman ran track.

Christian Walker was born in 1999 in Dallas shortly after Herschel Walker retired from the Dallas Cowboys, the last professional team he played for. He and Grossman divorced in 2002, when their son was 3 years old.

Grossman sought and obtained a restraining order against Herschel Walker in 2005.

In a 2008 interview with ABC News’ “Nightline,” Grossman offered a disturbing insight in the later years of their relationship, claiming her ex-husband threatened her with a gun.

“He got a gun and he put it to my head,” she told “Nightline.”

“Put the gun right to your head,” replied ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff, “and what did he say?”

“I’m going to blow your brains out,” Grossman said.

Herschel Walker said he has no recollection of that specific incident – which he says was a byproduct of his diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder, or DID, a complex mental health condition characterized by severe and potentially life-threatening symptoms. debilitating. He has since maintained that he received therapy and was “cured” of his DID, and he said he took responsibility for all past transgressions – which his son disputed this week.

Court records related to Grossman’s divorce proceedings contain additional allegations that Herschel Walker made threats of violence toward her and her then-boyfriend. Herschel Walker denied the allegations when questioned by police in 2005.

Become a political figure

Christian Walker, although now a vocal political conservative with hundreds of thousands of social media followers, said last year he rarely heard or talked about politics growing up, even from his father.

“It’s so weird, but we never talked about it back home,” he said in a 2021 interview with former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara.

“My dad in particular, I don’t remember him really hearing the news. My mum had the news sometimes. I didn’t really pay attention to it,” Christian Walker said, “and then when I had about 14 years old, [I started] listen and pay attention to politics.”

He was also about 14 years old when he began encouraging competition, notably for Spirit of Texas, one of the most renowned programs in the country. He also ran track on his high school team.

He previously said he never felt he disappointed his dad by cheerleading instead of playing football. In a 2015 CBS News interview, Herschel Walker said he was “proud” his son played such an athletic sport.

At 16, young Walker won the 2016 All Star Cheerleading World Championship at Disney World and went on to cheer at Southern Methodist University. He graduated in the spring from the University of California, Los Angeles and moved to Florida – after chafing at California’s progressive politics, he said, while longing for a “free” state. “.

Since high school, he has increasingly focused on his conservative outlook and social media persona.

In 2020, he reportedly led a “Gays for Trump” march in West Hollywood outside of Los Angeles, and he built an online presence largely through sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek comments on social and political issues — like testing whether Chick -thread-A chicken “straightens it” — while attracting fans, critics and many commentators.

Her uncompromising and brash content covered videos about “blue-haired liberal” guys, complaints about rising gas prices, and all the latest from her stunt of disappointments while dating men. (He said he wasn’t comfortable with the term “gay.”)

Often, he narrates his videos from the drive-thru line at Starbucks, where he will then characteristically interrupt his impassioned monologues to order a drink. Some of his online activity spilled into spats out of the car – but still in the queue – like when he confronted RArtist &B Kehlani, after saying Kehlani called him a “cunt hole” when commissioning.

He tried to create an image separate from his father, he said, and he rarely used his social media accounts to boost his father’s political efforts.

“I tried to build my platform around me and not just under its shadow or whatever,” he told Lara Trump last year.

The young Walker joined his father last December to support his candidacy, present it during an event at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.

Separately, Christian Walker also sold pro-Herschel Walker products through its website this year, although those items appear to have been removed.

On Twitter this week, he claimed he had largely backed out of his father’s campaign due to the way his father handled his personal baggage.

“We were told he was going to ‘get past his past and tell the truth’,” he wrote. “You know, before he started lying.
